The English as an Additional Language (EAL) program is part of our Language program at Milgate.
Many of our students come from a language background that is not English. Some students have come from overseas where their previous schooling has been in another language, or their home language is not English. Classroom teachers understand the diverse language backgrounds and needs of our students. They plan for this in mainstream classroom programs, and some students need additional support when learning English.
The EAL Program focuses on these students, by assisting them with targeted teaching, strongly connected to the classroom programs. Students may receive individual or small group assistance. We have a dedicated EAL teaching space for small group classes and students can also be supported within their classrooms by a Multicultural Education Aide. The EAL teacher works collaboratively with class teachers to prepare appropriate English learning tasks and activities.
