English as an Additional Language
The ‘English as an Additional Language’ (EAL) program is part of our overall Literacy program at Milgate.
A large number of our students come from a language background that is not English. Some students have come from overseas where their previous schooling has been in another language, or they were born in Australia but do not speak English at home. Classroom teachers understand the diverse language backgrounds and needs of our students. They plan for this in mainstream classroom programs but some of these students need additional support when learning English.
The EAL Program focuses on these students, by assisting them with targeted teaching. Students may receive individual or small group assistance. The EAL teacher also supports class teachers as they prepare appropriate English programs and materials.
