Age for Enrolment
Your child's 5th birthday must be on or before the 30th April, in their Foundation year, to be eligible for enrolment.
When to Enrol?
Parents of Foundation students can enrol their child the year before they commence school. At Milgate we prefer this to be done by early in Term 3, of course you are welcome to enrol your child earlier than this. We will also happily accept enrolments after this date.
Enrolling your child early enables them to participate in activities designed to help them familiarise themselves with school life e.g. Foundation Discovery, Storytime and Foundation Transition. At Milgate these days occur throughout the year, in Terms 2 - 4, of the year before your child starts school.
Please be aware that due to capacity requirements we may limit enrolments to our catchment area only at any time throughout the year. This means that, if required, we may only accept enrolments for students if we are your closest school. Proof of residency documentation may be required. If you are unsure please contact our school office on 9842 7744.
The Department of Education has recently released a new ‘Find my school’ website https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au. This means that schools, parents and the community can identify their closest school and all other schools across Victoria. There is further information in regard to this available at: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/going-to-school/Pages/zones-restrictions.aspx
TRANSFERRING FROM ANOTHER AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL
We warmly welcome students and families from around Australia at Milgate PS. We invite you to contact us directly via telephone or email. Parents with students transferring from another School within Australia will need to notify their current school of their intention to transfer. Please check with your current school's Office staff as to whether they require this in writing.
Age requirements for enrolment into a Victorian school may vary from interstate schools so students may be placed into a different Year Level from their current studies. In Victoria this is guided by age to ensure they are with other students of a similar age group for both academic and social integration.
Further information is available on the Department of Education's website.
