CAMP | Coonawarra or The Grampians
Camp Coonawarra is nestled in beautiful bushland along the Iguana Creek adjacent to the Mitchell River National Park, 3 and a half hours from Melbourne. The students immerse themselves in camp life, participate in new and exciting experiences. All of the students have a wonderful time and enjoy being risk-takers, communicators, creative problem solvers and collaborators. Each day leads to a new timetable full of activities, some of the specialised activities may include:
EXCURSION | City Art Walk
Our Year 5 students have an amazing time on their Art Walk Melbourne City excursion. Our inquiry into, ‘How We Express Ourselves’ leads us to explore different artists, their artworks and how we can communicate and express ourselves in different ways. We have a busy day in the City and see some inspiring and interesting art forms, from contemporary art, the moving image, street art and interactive installations. We visit ACCA (Australian Centre for Contemporary Art), the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria), Hosier Lane and ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image).
This is an amazing excursion that provokes deep artistic inspiration within us; students cannot wait to transfer their knowledge of what they learn from this experience into their inquiry into How We Express Ourselves.
EXCURSION | Preschool Visits
Our Year 5 students visit local preschools in groups over a number of weeks. Students enjoy the opportunity to read stories and play games with preschool children. The preschool children also enjoy the experience.
EXCURSION | PARLIAMENT HOUSE and OLD MELBOURNE GAOL
Our inquiry into Who We Are leads us to Parliament House and the Old Melbourne Gaol. We explore the history of Victorian government and the current processes of having a bill passed through parliament. We love the Old Melbourne Gaol, the excitement of being inside the cells and learning about the history of the gaol.
EXCURSION | Melbourne Museum and IMAX
For our next inquiry 'How The World Works', students learn about natural phenomena and how scientists are able to predict and prepare citizens for natural disasters. Previously ‘The Forces of Nature,’ was a powerful IMAX movie we saw at the Melbourne Museum that took us under the Earth’s crust and into the crater of a live volcano.
This learning is connected to our Central Idea:
- Humans use their scientific knowledge to understand natural phenomena.
And to our lines of Inquiry:
- Natural phenomena impacts people and the environment
- There are many contributing factors to natural phenomena
- Humans use their scientific understanding to predict, prepare and adapt for natural phenomena.
Students present a wonderful dramatic representation of their understanding of How The World Works during assembly. Students will share with our school community what they have learnt.
