Homework
Homework helps students by complementing and reinforcing classroom learning, fostering good lifelong learning and study habits, and providing an opportunity for students to be responsible for their own learning.
Regular homework is a valuable aspect of the teaching and learning process and contributes to the development of sound study habits and self-responsibility in children. It is seen as a valuable means of fostering understanding and communication between the home and the school and provides the opportunity for parents / carers to interact positively with their children.
In the Years Prep - 4 homework doesn’t exceed 30 minutes a day.
Prep homework consists mainly of daily reading to, with and by parents / carers or older siblings.
Years 1 & 2 homework consists mainly of daily reading to, with and by parents/carers or older siblings. There is a weekly Homework Contract to be completed and there may also be some practice of high frequency words, weekly spelling or a weekly numeracy problem.
Years 3 & 4 homework consists of daily reading and activities that enable the extension of class work by practicing skills or gathering extra information or materials. There is also a weekly Homework Contract to be completed and practice of high frequency words, weekly spelling and number facts.
Years 5 & 6 homework will include daily independent reading, a weekly Homework Contract and may also include a projects or assignments. Years 5 & 6 homework will generally range from 30-45 minutes a day.
